Over that past three years MHC has partnered with conservation and agricultural organizations in Manitoba to deliver innovative species-at-risk conservation work with landowners in Manitoba. Focussing largely on beef producers, and the native range they manage, MHC provided more than $600,000 to fund beneficial management practices that 1) support species-at-risk and wildlife conservation and 2) help to ensure long-term sustainability of ranching/farming operations. This work was delivered on behalf of Manitoba Beef Producers and Manitoba Agriculture, with funding being provided from Environment and Climate Change Canada. Through this project, more than 20,000 acres of working lands have been enhanced.
While MHC knows that wildlife populations and species-at-risk have benefitted, we want to get the people-perspective. To do this, MHC is collaborating with Dr. Jeremy Pittman from the University of Waterloo’s School of Planning on a research project about ranchers’ and farmers’ preferences for species-at-risk and endangered species conservation programs in Western Canada (including Manitoba). We are seeking your insights into what conservation programs are desirable and best suited for your operation.
Participation in this study involves completing a 15-minute online survey. In appreciation for your time, you will be given the opportunity to enter into a draw to win one of forty gift cards, which are each valued at $100 CAD. Your odds of winning one of the prizes is based on the number of individuals who participate in the study, but we will be giving away 10 prizes per province. This study has been reviewed and received ethics clearance through a University of Waterloo Research Ethics Committee.
