Habitat Donations
Leave a Legacy
Many landowners across Manitoba choose to leave a legacy for wildlife by donating a parcel of land or a conservation agreement (CA). MHC’s donated lands and CA’s help to protect native habitat across the province, including woodlands, grasslands, wetlands and riparian areas.
The Manitoba Habitat Conservancy gratefully accepts suitable habitat donations in the form of:
Land Donations
MHC can accept land donations for the purpose of protecting native habitat. There are three options available to individuals wishing to donate land to MHC.
A Land Donation occurs with a transfer of a land parcel from the current landowner to MHC. The second option is a Bequest by the landowner to MHC, usually in the form of the landowner’s Last Will and Testament. The third option is a combination of the first two, known as a Life Interest and Remaining Interest land donation.
Each option has distinct advantages to the landowner in terms of tax receipts, costs, payment of property taxes, land maintenance and access, etc. Please consult with your local MHC Habitat Conservation Specialist for details by completing the enquiry form below.
Donated Conservation Agreements
A Conservation Agreement is a way to ensure the long-term conservation of habitat on private land. Like all CAs It is designed to protect habitat and not interfere with the continued use of productive farmland. MHC will issue a tax-deductible donation receipt following the donation of a CA.
